Alan Wake's cell phone is a noncombat tool carried for most of the game. Alan is called numerous times by other characters, often Barry Wheeler. Outside of gameplay, the phone serves to allow Alan to communicate with remote characters such as Barry or the kidnapper. Inside gameplay, phone calls are interactive cutscenes of sorts that let the player know they won't be attacked by Taken for the duration of the call, for a bit of a breather.
While in the Dark Place, Alan summons his cell phone from an early word shadow and it serves as the GPS throughout the later missions.
Notes
- The phone is a Verizon satellite. The GPS signal is provided by VZ Navigator, a real Verizon app.
- The end cutscene from Episode 2 shows that Barry Wheeler uses the same make and model as Alan.
