Bird Leg Cabin was a house that sat on Diver's Isle in Cauldron Lake. It was named after the topography of the island from a top-down view, as it resembled a bird's footprint.
History[]
In the 1970s, the cabin belonged to Thomas Zane and Barbara Jagger, before it was apparently destroyed by a volcanic eruption.
Events of Alan Wake[]
Alan and Alice Wake come to Bird Leg Cabin on holiday in Bright Falls. Initially they were due to stay in one of Stucky's cabins, but when Alan arrived at the Oh Deer Diner to meet him, he was instead met by a mysterious woman, who gave him the keys and directions to this cabin instead.
At first the house looked like a peaceful place to stay, however after a brief fight with Alice in the study, Alan stormed out of the cabin. However the lights in the cabin turned off, and Alice was taken by the Dark Presence. In order to get Alice back, the mysterious woman from before used Alan's mind to create a story, named Departure, which Alan spent a whole week writing under the lake itself whilst inside the cabin. He was eventually able to escape with the help of Thomas Zane, but soon blacked out and forgot the past week he had just experienced.
Alan was able to escape to Stucky's Gas Station to call for help, where he was met with Sarah Breaker. Alan told Sarah about the cabin, but stated there was no cabin on the lake, not since the 1970's. Upon Alan and Sarah arriving at Cauldron Lake Lodge, the island and the cabin were gone.
As Alan tried to find Alice across Bright Falls, he encountered television sets turning themselves on, where he saw himself writing the manuscript within the cabin and going crazy over the experience, much to Alan's bemusement. It wasn't until a few days later that Alan was able to remember the events that occurred within the cabin thanks to moonshine the Anderson Brothers had made using unfiltered water from Cauldron Lake.
In order to defeat the Dark Presence, Alan returned to and jumped into Cauldron Lake, where he found Bird Leg Cabin at the bottom of it. Inside he was met with Barbara Jagger, where he used the clicker to defeat her. Alan then returned to the study to finish writing the end of Departure.
Alan later finds himself traversing a dark place version of Bright Falls, and all across it he finds more television sets of a version of him that has gone mad. This version of him is found at the Bird Leg Cabin, which Alan spends a good length of time trying to get to. Eventually he arrives at the cabin, but not before he had to fight dark versions of Barry, Emil Hartman and the Anderson Brothers.
When he enters the cabin once more, he finds the insane version of himself in the study, and upon touching his shoulder, he re-joins with that part of himself. Alan then spends his time trying to write a way out of the Dark Place, by writing Return.
Events of Alan Wake's American Nightmare[]

Bird Leg Cabin appears only briefly at the start of the game, when Alan finds himself in Night Springs, Arizona. There, the cabin can be seen in a small lake, completely destroyed.
Interior[]
The cabin is a two-story building with a living room and a kitchen on the bottom floor, and upstairs is a bedroom and a study. During Alan and Alice's stay in the cabin, there is a calendar on the wall that reads "July 4th, 1970".
Exterior[]
Off to the side of the cabin is an old hut with an old generator that powers all of the cabin's electricity, turning this generator on rewards the achievement Let There Be Light. The cabin has two porches: one in the front, and one in the back, the one in the back has a radio and also leads down to a dock on the island.
Trivia[]
- The Anderson Brothers refer to the Dark Presence as Baba Yaga at one point. Baba Yaga was a witch in Slavic mythology who lived in a wood cabin which stood on chicken's legs.
- In an early version of the script, Bird Leg Cabin itself stood on giant bird legs and would 'walk' around in the darkness of the night.
