For the character of the same name, go to Sam Lake (character).

Sam Lake (Sami Antero Järvi in Finnish) (born 18 July 1970) is the lead writer of Alan Wake, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, and Alan Wake 2, as well as other games by Remedy Entertainment. Within Remedy's games, he is best known for being the original likeness of Max Payne of the eponymous Max Payne series. In the Remedy Connected Universe, he also provides the likeness for FBI agent Alex Casey (as well as the fictional detective Alex Casey who appears in the Dark Place, based on the Alex Casey books written by Alan Wake) as well as a fictionalized version of himself.

In the PC version of the original Alan Wake, a QR code can be found in Episode 4 that links you to a GIF of Sam Lake's famous 'Constipated Grimace', the facial expression mapped onto Max Payne in the original Max Payne, which became ironically beloved by fans for looking silly. The code was changed in Alan Wake Remastered.

The game also has a complete commentary from him, which can be toggled from the menu at any moment. Alan Wake Remastered contains both the original commentary and a new one made by him for the remaster.
